What this resource offers

This is an editorial from the Journal of the American Medical Association, published August 17, 2021. The goal of this guidance document is to provide recommendations and suggestions that encourage fairness, equity, consistency, and clarity in the use and reporting of race and ethnicity in medical and science journals. The article provides specific recommendations for reporting race and ethnicity in research articles with several text examples. Specific recommendations with examples are also provided for terms, designations and phrases describing racial and ethnic groups. Context and rationale for the guidance and recommendations are emphasized.
