Finding and working with a (bio)statistician

Find guidance in how to find a biostatistician at your institution.

For biomedical-related studies, check to see if your institution has a Clinical and Translational Science Center or Institute (funded by an NIH CTSA grant), a Center for Translational Research (CTR), an IDeA-funded center, or a medical research institute, or is affiliated with an institution that does. These units typically offer biostatistics services. CTSAs and CTRs provide biostatistics services through specific centers called Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) cores.

Institutions with designated Cancer Centers also commonly have a biostatistics resource (or “biostatistics core”) to support cancer-related studies.

Academic departments of biostatistics can generally be found in Schools of Public Health. Most medical schools have access to biostatistics support. Statistics consulting assistance may also be available through academic departments of statistics or mathematics.

If all else fails, there are private statistical consulting firms that will provide fee-based services.
